Mojito The Cat – Review (PC)

mojito the cat feature

Mojito The Cat is a new 3D puzzle game in which you play as a cuboid cat navigating a bunch of different levels.

Well this was a nice surprise! Mojito The Cat really impressed me, and I found it great fun to play. You play as the titular Mojito The Cat, a cat squished into a cuboid form. Each level is it’s own puzzle, and it works like this. You can move as a cube, rolling over from one tile to the other. Within each level, you have to collect balls of yarn, a fish skeleton, and sometimes various other secrets.

The key to each level is doing this in the minimum amount of moves, and that is where the puzzle lay. Early levels are quite straightforward, it’s obvious what the minimum number of moves will be to get to the exit. Later levels are much more difficult and get more labyrinthine. These levels feature moving platforms, buttons which do various things, breakable steps and more level hazards which mean you really need to plan out your movements.

Levels start off relatively simple

And because the worlds are cuboid, each level is properly 3D. That means you can move around the tops, bottoms and sides if you step on a specific kind of tile. This means that looking around the level and planning your movements is key if you want to be able to complete each puzzle effectively. Of course, you don’t have to do that. If you just want to collect everything and get to the end, you can do that – you just won’t earn the full three stars for the level. There is still some level of challenge in this, with breakable steps you can lock yourself out and have to restart – but it means for gamers that want a bit less of a challenge that minimum steps can bring, this is a good option.

The levels themselves, are well designed. Each one has a clear objective, and it’s simple to move the camera around and take a look at where you need to go. The game doesn’t pressure you with timers and allows you to stop and take a look, which is great as it keeps a relaxing tone. I also feel the graphics and overall design of the game is really nice. It’s simplistic but one of those games that is just pleasing to look at. Each world is it’s own little vignette, and I think the developer has done a really great job with it.

The levels are pleasing little vignettes

Overall, I found Mojito The Cat a delight to play. It’s got a nice design, some good puzzle mechanics, and is a peaceful relaxing title. Not to mention, there are more skins to unlock for your character as you play. It’s just one of those games that is just fun to play. I sort of get Captain Toad vibes from it. The game is currently set to launch on the 16th April, and I’ve been informed by the developer that it’s initial price will be around five to six euros. It doesn’t feature gigantic amounts of content with around sixty levels, but you will have a nice time playing them, and it’s a game I’d be happy to recommend.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.
